Coming of age into the new year

As the year draws to a close, we hit an exciting milestone: Systam turned 18 years old in November. We are now officially “of age”! At home, I have a couple of little humans who still have a way to go, which got me thinking about what adulthood really means.

For individuals, coming of age means gaining legal rights and responsibilities – you’re accountable for your actions but also gain new freedoms. For companies, however, obligations and rights kick in when your business ID is registered, and the journey begins. A company doesn’t reach adulthood unless it shoulders its responsibilities – in that sense, the process works in reverse.

For both individuals and businesses, who you surround yourself with and the choices you make while growing are what ultimately lead to success.

At Systam, we’ve been lucky to have amazing companies and individuals around us who have supported, guided, and enabled our growth over these 18 years. So, thank you to our customers, partners, and the entire Systam team!

Highlights of the year

This year, Systam continued to shoulder its responsibilities with pride, and as a reward, we achieved growth and welcomed some incredible new customers.

2024 was another intense year of product development, much like the one before it. Our team grew slightly, but more importantly, we learned to better utilize our networks, using them to challenge and improve our work. Of course, the rapid evolution of generative AI has also made its mark on the daily life of a software company.

Some of our efforts were already visible this year as updates and new features, but much more of the impact will unfold soon. Next year, Systam will boldly aim even higher, while remembering what brought us here: steady growth, responsibility, and a curious mindset. Needless to say, we’re entering 2025 from a strong foundation and with great excitement!

The future of in-person work and office visits

Depending on the source, predictions vary on the future of workplace interactions: will they fade, move to the virtual realm, or return to pre-COVID levels? Many organizations are still searching for the right balance between remote and in-office work.

In-person work and time spent at offices have a direct impact on visitor numbers – something we’re in the perfect position to observe. Our Systam Visit service is Finland’s most widely used visitor management system, recording over 500,000 visits annually. This year alone, visits grew by about 10% within our customers, with momentum increasing during the fall compared to 2023. This trend likely mirrors office occupancy rates, as analysis of our customers’ data shows that in-person office days directly influence visitor volumes.

Certain patterns are almost universal: visitor numbers drop by nearly half on Mondays and Fridays compared to the midweek days of Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Naturally, July and December also see a noticeable slowdown in traffic.

Digging into our anonymous visitor data uncovers some fun details, like the busiest moments of the year. For our customers, it was typically Tuesday in November at 9:00 AM. If there’s ever a time for everything to run smoothly, it’s then!

Let’s keep meeting

This year has been both a milestone of adulthood for Systam and a year of growth and learning. On a personal level, my long journey as an entrepreneur has offered plenty of growth opportunities as well. I know many in my network have built impressive careers or longstanding businesses, and I’d love to hear your thoughts about growing older alongside your company. What if we met to chat?

We firmly believe that meetings and human connections will remain essential – both for business success and individual well-being. That’s why we continuously develop our services to enable smooth and meaningful interactions in all work environments.

With great excitement, we look forward to the new year.
