Meet Anu – Our Communications Specialist

15.07.2021

Greetings from the team

Our communications specialist Anu Luoma starts her mornings with a bowl of oatmeal and considers it a positive challenge to take our spirit and action for the world to see. The cornerstones of her work are the good relationships between colleagues and the relaxed atmosphere at work, both of which anu would not compromise for anything.

What do you do and what does your typical workday look like?

I work every day to ensure that Systam is seen in a positive light. I am the head of communications, but I am also in part responsible for marketing; in close cooperation with our sales and management.

My typical day starts off with oatmeal to power the day. After that my work day may include designing website content, a strategy meeting with the sales team, writing a blog article or compiling a customer bulletin. My work is about managing larger entities, but practically it’s mostly writing. My task is to produce interesting and informative content for the needs of various groups and to ensure uniform and target-oriented communications in line with our brand.

What attracted you to Systam?

When I crossed paths with Systam in 2016, the company was on the verge of a period of major growth with an excellent product to showcase. The need for kicking off communications and marketing on a larger scale was pressing. Systam felt like an excellent opportunity to start building a growing company where I could put my talent to versatile use. There was clear chemistry between the team members from the very start, and you could feel that we had a great team for getting things done.

What about your previous life?

I have a Bachelors degree in media and arts, and I have also completed a Master of Science degree in the University of Tampere, as for a while there, I thought I wanted to be a librarian. But after a short while, however, I found myself creating various communications and marketing content, so my wanderings on the wrong side of the tracks only lasted for the duration of my information science studies. I have now worked in different types of communications and marketing tasks for more than ten years; five of them with Systam.

What is best about your job?

I like to take charge of extensive projects and make an impact. It’s been great to have a chance to be part of designing the Systam brand or, in other words, shaping the way in which the world sees Systam. I consider it intriguing to be able to communicate our spirit and innovation to others in an interesting way. However, the foundation of my work is about the daily communications to convey our message in an open and understable way to support our operations. That is why it brings me great joy to offer our customers information, assistance and instructions for building our mutual partnership and trust.

Having good colleagues may sound like a cliché, but the significance of a truly positive and encouraging work atmosphere cannot be downplayed. I would have a hard time starting my mornings, if I would feel that something is off. The company’s methods of working have also been made very flexible, which is a major benefit for my independent nature.

What keeps you busy during your spare time?

In a family of two children and two adults, life outside working hours revolves around very simple things, such as doing things together, taking care of tasks at home and taking the children to their hobbies. During my own time I like to go running, read detective stories and dream about having an unlimited budget for interior decoration.

What do others often not know about you?

I am an enthusiastic renovator and I am quite handy at DIY work with a variety of tools, such as mitre saws, needle guns and percussion drills. Hardware stores are one of my favourite stores.

Thank you Anu!
