Meet Eero – Customer Solutions Specialist in our IT support team

05.02.2021

Greetings from the team

Eero Minkkinen from our support team is a sociable person and a team player who is inspired by technology, and who says that music has saved him from sports. The best things about working at Systam are the opportunities to learn new things, the positive and relaxed atmosphere and cooperation between colleagues, as well as the way we are able to encounter and assist our customers.

What do you do and what does your typical workday look like?

I work in the frontline of Systam’s IT support services. In addition to responding to support requests, my days are often filled with customer visits and various hardware maintenance and setting-up activities. I also participate in the development of services and products and, at times, I am known to get involved in marketing as well. You never quite know what a new day will bring.

What attracted you to Systam?

I happened to stumble across a recruitment ad in LinkedIn, and the job seemed to be exactly what I had been looking for, in other words, a position in technical customer service. I didn’t know anything about Systam before, but a quick look at the details was enough to convince me that we would be a good match. However, the job ad had been posted some time ago, so I thought I would most likely be getting a response saying “Unfortunately, the position has already been filled”. But I thought I would still give it a go and submit an application. And it paid off!

What about your previous life?

My career before Systam has mainly involved customer service work and jobs in the retail industry. I have also worked as a security guard for several years. I have studied at Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences in the Degree Programme in International Business, specialising in Marketing.

My technical competence has mainly been accumulated in extra-curricular activities, as I have always been fascinated by technology. And it continues to interest me to the point that I wanted to work in the sector.

What is best about your job?

My previous jobs have been in large enterprises. Now it has been interesting to follow (as well as participate in) the operations of a smaller company where everyone is willing to help you and, although it might sound a bit cliché, where the team is truly pulling together. On top of it all, I get to do and learn things that have interested me for a long time. And as a former shift worker, I may add that the regular office hours also feel too good to be true.

Customer visits offer a chance to see new places and meet new people, and also to provide help in the problems and issues the customers are facing.

I cannot help being grateful for how lucky I have been. Especially when thinking that 2020 was not the best of years on a global scale.

What keeps you busy during your spare time?

At the moment, my spare time is mainly spent at home due to the coronavirus situation. I spend a lot of time playing computer and console games, and I also like to play the guitar. For more than ten years, my hobbies have also included playing airsoft. During the winter, I like to skate, if weather permits.

What do others often not know about you?

I am a Tampere Hockey Championship winner from 1998 and a winner of an old MVP award (most valuable player). After those years, music has saved me from sports.

Thank you Eero!
