Meet Joonas – Software Developer

11.12.2023

Greetings from the team

Say hi to our developer Joonas Järvinen. Software development is more than a job for him – it’s a lifestyle. But don’t be fooled by the cliché of a stereotypical coder. You might bump into Joonas  just as likely during a yoga session or at the running trail, where he’s amassed quite an impressive tally.

What do you do and what does your typical workday look like?

At the moment, my primary focus lies in the development of the frontend of our products. Frontend is the fancy term for the visible part of applications or websites – the look and feel. My typical day involves the creation of new functionalities, solving various challenges, and providing assistance to fellow team members.

What attracted you to Systam?

Systam was in the midst of a recruitment drive, and the sought-after skill set happened to align with the technologies familiar to me. The company was a novel discovery, and I was unfamiliar with its core product in visitor management. But the topic seemed intriguing, and indeed it is. It’s been over two years in good company.

What about your previous life?

Before joining team Systam, I was crafting my own mobile apps and studying IT at Metropolia University of Applied Sciences in Helsinki. Still, being a true-blue Tampere native, the return to roots felt darn good.

What is best about your job?

Hands down, the ability to make people’s lives easier with my coding escapades.

What keeps you busy during your spare time?

I’m still knee-deep in my coding projects during free hours. My latest venture is a note-taking app built with Electron, available in the Microsoft Store – check it out here.

I also love reading and exercise. Running and yoga are my go-to sports. And lately, I’ve picked up playing the guitar, thanks to some peer pressure from the Systam dev team (we already have two guitarists and a drummer in the mix).

What do others often not know about you?

I can do a handstand (as any respectable yogi should). Oh, and I’ve run a marathon – solo. Trained, planned, and just hit the road. The route circled Pyhäjärvi from Nokia to Pirkkala and then to Lielahti in Tampere. My knee still gives me reminders from that adventure.

Thank you Joonas!
